For model year 2014 John Deere has made several enhancements to their 4000 series tractors, now known as the 4-Family. The new 4R series tractors are the premium models and the replacement for the 4000 Twenty series. The John Deere 4R Series Compact Utility Tractors are available in both an open and cab operator station, highlights include new styling, Tier 4 diesel engines, wheel spacers, and a few other surprises!
Updated Styling Improves Aesthetics and Function
The 4R has an aggressive look with bold graphics, curves, and new headlight design that make this tractor family instantly recognizable. Functionally, the sloping angle of the hood increase user visibility and the fixed grill and side create a better seal for the engines cooling compartment.
Final Tier 4 Yanmar Diesel Engine
The 4R series is no longer being powered by a John Deere diesel engine, but is still using a 4 cylinder engine design by Yanmar. The Tier 4 emission compliant engine runs quieter, and is more fuel efficient. The introductory 4044R is naturally aspirated but the 4052R and 4066R models are turbo charged.
Option of PowrReverser or eHydro Transmission
The open station 4R tractors give the option of either the 12F/12R PowrReverser transmission or the eHydro transmission. The PowrReverser gives the rugged durability of the gear transmission with the convenience of syncronized gears in range and clutchless forward to reverse.
Although the eHydro is an option on the open station tractors, it is a standard with cabs. The eHydro now comes standard with all the convenience features of cruise control, MotionMatch,, LoadMatch, SpeedMatch, and eThrottle.
New Auxiliary 3-pt Hitch Control and Hitch Assist
This all new auxiliary 3-pt hitch control makes hooking up and removing attachments easier than ever by allowing the operator to raise or lower the hitch while standing behind the tractor. But that’s not it, the hitch assist feature allows the operator to creep the tractor forward or reverse while standing behind the tractor, making things even easier!
Deluxe Seat with Swivel Function
All open station tractors come standard with a deluxe seat with suspension and armrest. To make the seat more comfortable for reverse implement operation it has a 15 degree swivel in either direction. This swivel reduces operator fatigue when looking to the rear of the tractor when doing implement work.
Improved Hydraulics and Hydraulic Controls
All the new 4R tractor models have a optional dual rear selective control valves, stackable electrohydraulic third SCV and the cab models have a redesigned joystick to enhance the ease of use and versatility of the tractor.
Optional Wheel Spacers
Perhaps the feature people have been looking forward to the most is the ability to create a wider stance. These dealer installed wheel spacers fit between the hub and final drive to extend the wheel base by a total of 11 inches!
