1. Aerate your Lawn.

2. Watering.
On average, most lawns need 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week. Checking Your soil moisture level is an important step in having a healthy yard, it can be the difference between green and brown grass. You can check your soil moisture level with a trowel, or even a chopstick. Either way, the top 2-3 inches should feel mostly dry. After watering, test the soil once more, if the soil isn’t wet 4-6 inches in, then continue to water until it is. This step will be a 50/50 difference between a healthy and non-healthy yard. Plus, this step will allow your yard to grow deeper, grow stronger, and grow healthier.
3. Preventing Weeds.
This is now a war between you and your neighbors. If they aren’t keeping up with their yard, you have to pick up their slack and spray weeds in their yard to prevent them in yours. The easiest time to pull weeds and prevent seeds is early in their life cycle. Which means you’ll need to apply weed killers to crab grass and dandelions. If this isn’t the trick, try pulling the weeds after a rain or watering in order to get the whole root. Thatch will not form from cut grass, remove thatch around the same time using a rake or a tool specifically designed for removing matted grass.
4. Lawn Fertilizers.
There’s a wide variety of fertilizer you could get for your yard. One we’d recommend is an organic fertilizer, this releases the nutrients slowly over time. A small increase in organic material, quadruples the grass’ ability to store water. Allowing the grass to absorb nutrients more efficiently. Not only is grass a fertilizer in itself, but it can provide most of the nutrients the grass needs. However, using clippings does come with restrictions. Clippings need to small enough to decompose quickly and you should only remove a third of the grass blade during any clipping, this will prevent shocking and stressing the grass seed. recycling grass work best when it’s cut more frequently.
5. Mowing While Wet.
Ideally, mow when grass is dry. While mowing a wet lawn doesn’t harm grass, it doesn’t have the results of the pro you are. Mowing wet grass will fill and clog a mowers deck. This will have the tendency of grass falling and clumping together as you mow, creating an uneven cut and leaving clumps of wet grass to rot on top of your grass. Whether your mower’s heavy or light, grass moist enough can make ruts and make you tear up grass leaving mud spots. If there is absolutely no way to avoid mowing in the wet weather, spray an oil or silicone spray to help prevent grass clippings from building up.
6. Mowing Pattern.
Avoiding mowing in the same pattern will significantly help you stray away from starting ruts and compacting the soil too much. The most irritating aspect of mowing grass is missing a patch in the middle of your lawn, changing your pattern prevents this. At Mutton Power, we believe everyone is entitled to a healthy yard and we’re here to make sure you cut every blade. So come on down to Mutton Power Equipment to get what your lawn deserves.
7. Hillsides.
Using care while mowing a hillside is especially important to take precaution to prevent serious injuries. Moving horizontally on a hill will help you keep traction and prevent the slip from wet or moist grass. 8. Soil Types.
Exploring your yards soil type will help you immensely. If you begin to see water puddles or standing water, your grass is likely a high clay content. Meaning, this soil type can’t absorb water quickly and requires repeated, shorter watering periods. However, water will retain in clay soil longer than if it were a more sandy soil.
9. Shady Lawns.
Grass growing in the shade requires less water than sun-bathed grass. In exception to grass shaded by a tree, in this case you’ll need to balance the water between the grass and roots. Not only do shady spots make watering grass more confusing, but you may need to water these spots more or less frequently depending on what’s covering them. Also, remember to water deeply, it helps encourage roots to grow stronger. Every so often, dip into your dirt to see how deep water is penetrating. If your roots aren’t reaching 2 to 3 inches, it’s likely that your soil is compacted and needs aerated.
10. natural forces.
Natural forces impact your lawn care routines greatly. While it seems debatable, less than 2{fef43dd3ebe491a7a0b77b2f8c85361e365cdac36b5c2305aad1e03c7b03cc05} of insects are actually harmful to your grass. While most of the insects are harmless, only a select few are really dangerous or even considered harmful to a lawn. A few of the ones you want to watch out for are Spider Mites, snails/slugs, cabbage worms, and Japanese beetles. All of which are fairly common in lawns. Not only do these natural forces affect your yard, some are even dangerous to humans like; Chiggers, assassin bugs, bees, hornets/wasp, spiders, and many more. Having a bird feeder/house will help welcome birds that feed on insects and can help maintain a healthier amount of insect population. Another force to recon with is rain, rain can make or brake your yard. It’s important to pay close attention to the weather during rainy seasons to help you decide when a good time to take care of your lawn is.
11. Choosing a Lawn Mower.

Choosing the right mower for your lawn can and can’t be one, if not the most, important utility to consider when choosing a device. It’s also just as important to have sharp blades, new mower with dull blades is no better than an old one with sharpened blades. Considering your lawn in your shopping will help you decide what will the job done best. Using a push mower on a radial of 60 probably won’t turn out the best, but to an Exmark Staris E-series, it’ll make a hill feel suddenly flat.

12. Reseeding and Renovation.

Older lawns may have grass varieties that can’t handle the heat or even the cold. Grass may grow in bunches and have thick blades that are hard to walk through. A hot summer can leave bare spots and thin areas around your lawn. Reseeding is an important step in the planning process for your lawn. If you are planning on making your lawn look good this summer, reseeding and renovating could be your biggest possibility at success. With new varieties of grass, you can now grow lushes green grass in the most bizarre climates.
13. Measurements.
Professionals will stress the measurement of your yard as one of the most important factors to consider when it comes to finding the right amount of fertilizers and/or other lawn treatments. If your property lot is on two acres of land, chances are you’re maintaining a lot less than two acres of grass. A common mistake in lawn care is overfeeding and over-treatment of a lawn. Whether tending home lawns or your own field where every square foot is managed by GPS, over-estimating a maintained area can be detrimental to a lawn and quite expensive.
