Here are some easy projects to get your lawn ready for Fall!
You’ve been working hard all year long! And to reward you for all that you do, we’re giving you the day off! So take an extra day to kick back, relax and enjoy a nice, long weekend. This one’s for you! Labor Day Weekend is also a great time to squeeze in a few projects around the lawn! With Fall right around the corner, there are some last minute, end of season projects that can help keep your lawn healthy and looking great well into the Fall and Winter seasons. If you’re looking to get some projects done with your extra day off, here are five easy projects for your labor day weekend.
1. Prune Trees and Bushes

Just a few minutes with a pruner will have your trees and bushes looking great! Get rid of those dead branches and unsightly twigs. Trimming away some out of control limbs will give your trees and shrubs a neat, clean appearance!
2. Aerate your Lawn

Over the summer, your lawn has probably put up with a lot. Between summer cookouts, pickup football games, and high traffic, most of us put a lot of pressure on our lawns — literally. When soil becomes compacted, it becomes harder for it to receive necessary nutrients and oxygen. Regular aerating can dramatically improve your lawn’s ability to breathe properly, which will give it a rich, green color.
For most cool-season grasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass, the best time to aerate is RIGHT NOW! Aerating in the early fall helps to promote healthy growth and aeration when your lawn needs it the most.

3. Edge your Sidewalks

If it’s been a while since you’ve edged along your sidewalk or driveway, it’s probably time. Spending just a few minutes edging your sidewalk will do wonders for your lawn and garden! Use an edger or weed trimmer to clean up along paths to give your exterior a neat, symmetrical look.
4. Mulch your Lawn

Mulch Kits help make your lawn look great by drastically reducing the size of your lawn clippings. Due to excess growth during Spring and Summer months, Fall is the best time to mulch your lawn. Mulch kits promote healthy growth, maximize aeration and reduce thatch buildup. If you don’t have a mulch kit installed on your mower, they’re super easy to install!

5. Sharpen or Replace Mower Blades

Along with maintaining your lawn before Fall, maintaining your lawn mower is just as important! By now, your lawn mower blades have probably taken quite a beating. Dull or chipped lawn mower blades can leave your lawn looking dull. One telltale sign of dull blades is that your lawn will begin to look white right after you mow. This is a sign that the grass blades are being torn, rather than cut. If this is the case, then it’s time for a blade replacement. Replacing your lawn mower blades is a simple task that can be done in under ten minutes, be sure to get all your John Deere parts at Green Mower Parts.
