How to Turn your backyard into a Movie Theater!
Now that Summer is here, you may be looking for a fun project to do with your friends and family! You’ll want to do something that is fun or everyone and easy to do… Such as a backyard movie theater!
Things you’ll need:
- Sound System
- Seating Options
- Snack Options
Setting up the Screen
The first thing you’ll need to do this project is a screen! An old fitted sheet will work just fine, BUT keep in mind that it could effect the quality of the movie. Good news is that there are affordable, professional-quality outdoor screens! Here are a few that you can buy:
- Walmart 94 inch Diagonal Outdoor Screen
- Target Camp Chief Indoor/Outdoor Screen Kit 92 inch
- Amazon Outdoor Projector Screen 80 inch
If the screen you use doesn’t already come with a stand or frame– you’ll need to hang it on a flat surface. Some places to put the screen could be: along the house, garage, or fence (if its high enough). Just keep in mind that you want to put the screen where everyone has a great view!
Setting Up the Projector
Next, you’ll want to get a projector! If you play the movie from your laptop, make sure you have an HDMI cord handy. If not, you can purchase one at Walmart, Best Buy, Office Depot, etc. Now you need the projector! Here are some budget friendly projectors:
If you want to watch the movie with sound you’ll need a sound system! If you don’t have speakers that you can hook up to your laptop, here are some affordable speaker options:
Next, seating is up to you! If your friends and family want a blanket on the ground with some pillows to watch the movie, then that is a great idea! But if they want lawn chairs or other seating options here are some other options:
Finally, snack options! Though this isn’t a necessity but it is a fun touch that everyone will enjoy! You could get bags of candy and hand them out or you could do something like a popcorn machine. Here are some options for popcorn machines:
This project is perfect for the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons! It is easy to clean up and easy to set up. We hope this blog gave you inspiration to make your backyard a movie theater!
